WiSEASS Networking Event 

EuroSEAS 2026, Madrid

3 September 2026

On 3 September 2026, WiSEASS held an informal networking event on the sidelines of the 14th EuroSEAS Congress at the Complutense University of Madrid. Members and prospective members gathered to reconnect and meet new colleagues working on Southeast Asia.

Speakers were Sol Iglesias (University of the Philippines-Diliman, co-convenor), Sayamol Charoenratana (Chulalongkorn University, co-convenor), and Kikue Hamayotsu (Northern Illinois University, WiSEASS founding member). Kikue spoke about her experience as a founding member of WiSEASS, having also been a member of the WiSEASS Collaborative Grants 2021 selection committee. Later on, she was a grant beneficiary and was able to put together a panel on democratic backsliding on Southeast Asia at EuroSEAS 2022 (Paris), mainly with other WiSEASS members.

The event also marked the relaunch of the WiSEASS website, back online after a year-long outage that required rebuilding the site's archives.
